Texas’ New House Water Caucus Gains Twenty-Nine Members, Holds First Meeting

AUSTIN – The Texas House Water Caucus, a new, bi-partisan collaborative focused on water issues, added twenty-nine new members to its original roster of thirty-eight legislators, bringing total current membership to sixty-seven legislators.

“The level of interest we’ve seen in the Caucus over only the last few weeks since its establishment was announced is highly encouraging,” said Texas State Representative Tracy O. King, elected Chair of the Texas House Water Caucus. “It signals a growing awareness of Texas’ water security concerns.”

Caucus members held their first meeting on January 25, 2023, to adopt bylaws, hold elections, and introduce a new portal to provide legislators and their staff with educational resources. Resources include water maps and tools, reports, publications, contact directories, and more.

This month, Caucus members will commence a learning series on water security and state water infrastructure needs. These sessions will lead up to Texas Water Foundation’s Texas Water Day at the Capitol, an educational event that will highlight the importance of water security, state water infrastructure, and funding needs.
